This is the foundation of community safety and violence prevention. It is based on the best practices that have strengthened the Black community for hundreds of years. These best practices have been handed down from generation to generation and still are practiced in areas of the South and with some northern families whose ancestors traveled north in the great migration. Often these practices are grouped under a heading called “home training”. Today, these same practices are called “old school”.  These best practices lead to a way of seeing oneself and conducting oneself in society. Ultimately, these practices reinforce our individual humanity, instill self-confidence and teach us how to relate to others in a human and respectful way. These best practices have headed off youth acting out for hundreds of years.
